Playa Del Carmen

Playa, as locals call it, is located 45 miles south of Cancun right in the heart of the Riviera Maya of the Mexican Caribbean, in the middle of the well-known Tulum/Cancun Corridor (view map below). Playa is the ideal place for a vacation, whatever you are up to. You can take day trips into the history of the Mayan Civilization, to parks and natural aquariums, Cenotes, Cancun, and surrounding villages, or stick to day time activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing or parasailing. It is all at hand. You can also take the ferry and spend a day in Cozumel, the ferry trip will take around 45 minutes. Next to Playa you will find Akumal and many other amazing little towns.
Many locals and visitors alike, prefer to just hang out on one of its many fantastic beaches with its white sand, which never gets hot. Have a swim in the crystal clear waters or maybe a beer or a margarita in the shade.

The original Mayan name of Playa del Carmen is "Xaman Ha" which means "water from the south".
Once a sleepy fishing village, this town has blossomed into a cosmopolitan community with visitors and residents from around the world drawn by its breathtaking beauty, natural wonders and sophisticated yet laid back atmosphere.

Playa attracts people from all over the world: tourists, travelers and locals alike, which adds a special flavor, look, and feel to the village. The people who live and work here, the shop and restaurant owners, scuba diving instructors, artists, musicians, etc. will speak a thousand languages from every corner of the globe.
When the sun sets, the 5th avenue - the heart of Playa del Carmen - is at the center of a party that encompasses several blocks and lasts all night with live music, late night shows, karaoke bars, DJ parties and beachfront discos.
Many love stories and new couples have started in Playa, perhaps as you read this, some special memories will come to your mind...

Welcome to Playa!
